They Are Just Things

Topics of conversation these days seem to revolve around losses. Whether it is things given up during a divorce, losses from the economic downturn, or the myriad different reasons people are "losing" material possessions.

I have a slightly different view on this topic, and it goes like this - They are just things. Whenever I personally get caught up in the loss mentality I quickly snap out of it knowing that I would give everything I own to spend one more day with my mom. That I would forgo any material object to spend time with those I love, or those that need my love.

When I bring it down to that perspective there is not a person I know that does not look me in the eye with the depth of their soul and agree.

Things are not worth fighting over, they are not worth the energy drain, and the life they take from you. They are not worth distracting you from loving your kids, spending time with your friends/family.

They are just things, they can be replaced if you've lost them, and want them back. Or they can be forgotten as you focus on what really matters. Whenever I have surrendered to this way of thinking, I've been blessed with treasures more valuable than "things".
